Descrption:
The laying of the cornerstone for this train station on September 25th, 1935, put people of Nikšić in celebratory mood. A few thousands of people participated in this symbolical act of commencement of works. Three years later, on St. Peter’s day, on July 12th, 1938, Nikšić-Bileća railway was opened. This great day, when Nikšić was connected to the rest of Yugoslavia, gathered 5000 people in front of the train station. They all excitedly waited for the arrival of the so called “Ćiro” train. The town was decorated with flags, people danced in kolo. The last train left for Bileća on May 5th, 1976 at 13.18. The railway station was a special gathering place for all those who cannot sleep at night, regular passengers, professors, poets and bohemians. Construction of railway to Podgorica, former Titograd, commenced on October 20th, 1947, and the first train left the station on the following summer.
