Descrption:
A memorial to King Nikola I was ceremonially unveiled in Freedom Square, on May 9th, 2006. The bronze sculpture of a horseman, the king in national clothes is a work by the sculptor Miodrag Zivković from Belgrade. The statue with its pedestal is 9.15 m high and dominates the square. King Nikola helped the construction of modern Nikšić. Inter alia, he brought the famous architect from Trogir. Thanks to him, urban plan of the town was made. Also, he is responsible for establishing first industries in Montenegro, the brewery and a saw mill.
