Descrption:
Vuk’s bridge furnishes the landscape of Nikšić. The bridge dates back from the period of Turkish rule which is referred to in its former name – Baig’s bridge (Begov most).
The original bridge over the river Zeta that led to Risan and Trebinje was destroyed at the beginning of 19th century or, more precisely, around 1807 when Onogošt was under attack.
The destruction of Baig’s bridge inspired a merchant Hadži Ismail Lekić from Nikšić to start an initiative and build a new bridge in Duklo because crossing the river was dangerous and considerably hampered.
Prince Nikola, who played an important part in reconstruction and building of previously mentioned bridges, decided to, donate this bridge to Nikšić and named it after Montenegrin hero Vuk Mićunović – Vuk’s bridge, in 1888.
Today, Vuk’s bridge is no longer used for traffic because there is a new bridge right next to it, built for these purposes in the 20th century.
